Charles Wunderlich established the Monroe Cooper Shop in 1860 on the western bank of the Mississippi River, manufacturing wooden barrels for local businesses, traders and settlers. The company today still resides on the site where it was founded, providing easy access to the river which was the primary mode of transportation for goods at that time. In 1892, the company was granted its articles of incorporation and the name was changed to the Charles Wunderlich Cooperage Company, after its founder.
Around 1930, with the onset of fibre drums and boxes, the company added the name Wunderlich Fibre Box Manufacturing Company after it began producing corrugated shipping containers in addition to barrels. After 100 years in the cooperage business, the last barrel rolled off the line in 1960. By this time, it had become a local leader in the corrugated box industry. Wunderlich was one of the first to provide high-quality direct print boxes, eliminating the need to hand stamp individual boxes. Today, the company continues to be a leader in the high-resolution, multi-color flexographic carton industry as well as offering creative and innovative packaging design.
